Torro-Flor magic in Marrakech

Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor wrapped up a stunning week to beat Romina Oprandi and be crowned champion in Marrakech with a 6-3 3-6 6-3 triumph.

It was an intriguing encounter for what was the first WTA final for both unseeded players.

After missing the Australian Open with a leg injury, Torro-Flor arrived in Morocco with only three wins to her name this year, but was in devastating form to reach Sunday's final as he dumped out two seeds without dropping a set.

The Spaniard began impressively to take the first set, but Oprandi hit back brilliantly and showed some fine form, considering she is just four tournaments into her comeback following a nine month absence because of a shoulder injury.

Switzerland's Oprandi, who had stunned third seed Yvonne Meusburger of Austria in the quarter-finals and did even better in the semis with victory over top seed Daniela Hantuchova, could not though keep up her power levels and faded in the deciding set.

And so it was the world No 71 who kept her composure to lift the Grand Prix SAR trophy.
