Toulon sign Boks star Smith
Toulon have confirmed the signing of former South Africa flanker Juan Smith on a one-year deal.
Smith arrives at the Heineken Cup champions as a 'medical joker' and adds a further option to Toulon's back-row armoury which includes Juan Martin Fernandez Lobbe, Steffon Armitage, Joe van Niekerk and Danie Rossouw.
Smith had to retire from the sport in February after 18 months out of the game because of an Achlles injury. But he found a doctor able to fix the problem and he has now resumed his career.
Smith joins the growing number of South African stars at Toulon, which includes Van Niekerk, Bryan Habana, Bakkies Botha, Rossouw and Michael Claassens all at the club.
"It's great for me to sign for Toulon as I have friends at the club. Coming here was an easy decision to make," Smith said.
"I am ready to get playing now and it is up to the coaches for when they decide to pick me."
