Tsonga through in Metz

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga eased into the quarter-finals of the Moselle Open in Metz with a 6-3 6-3 win over fellow Frenchman Clement Reix.

Tsonga, the world number seven, proved too strong for an opponent ranked 495 places beneath him in the world, breaking three times to book his place in the last eight in 79 minutes.

Fourth seed Florian Mayer also moved through to the quarter-finals after fighting back from a set down to overcome American veteran James Blake 6-7 (7-4) 6-3 6-4.

In first round action, Italian fifth seed Andreas Seppi beat Ivan Dodig 6-7 (9-7) 6-3 6-4, but home favourite Paul-Henri Mathieu was beaten 7-6 (7-5) 6-4 by Luxembourg's Gilles Muller.

Michael Berrer made the most of his status as a lucky loser to beat Jan Hajek, who retired when trailing 6-4 2-0, and American Jesse Levine beat Cedrik-Marcel Stebe 6-3 6-2.
