Tsonga too strong for Monfils
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga continued his dominance over Gael Monfils to reach the second round of the Japan Open.
Tsonga, the No 2 seed, registered a 6-3 7-6 (10-8) victory to extend his record to four wins in five matches against his compatriot.
Tsonga fired down 11 aces but saw Monfils save three match points before he was able to secure his place in the next round.

Almagro eventually overcame the challenge of the German qualifier 7-6 (7-4) 7-6 (7-3).
Alexandr Dolgopolov had no such problems as he brushed aside Daniel Brands 6-3 6-1 in his opening match.
