Turnbull arrives at Swindon

Swindon have signed Southampton defender Jordan Turnbull on a season-long loan.

Turnbull was a member of Swindon's youth team before switching to the Saints in 2007 and he has been training with the Robins for the last 10 days.

He signed a contract extension at St Mary's last year, to keep him at the club until 2016, and he is yet to play for the first team, although he has heavily featured in their Under-21 side's matches.

Southampton team-mate Jack Stephens spent part of last season at the County Ground and the south-coast club's technical director, Martin Hunter, told the club's website of the move: "We treat everybody as individuals and, like we did with Jack Stephens last year, we think that going out on loan will escalate Jordan's development.

"We've got a good link with Swindon - they try to play good football, and that's one of the reasons why we let Jack go last year and Jordan this year.

"Jordan and Jack formed one of the better partnerships in the Barclays Under-21 Premier League last year, and now we need to push him on.

"We look forward to him returning in a year's time as a stronger, more experienced player."
