United fans want transparency

The Manchester United Supporters Trust have pleaded for greater transparency over the reasons for a ticket allocation reduction on Merseyside.

Liverpool City Council's licensing committee will decide next week if United should be given fewer tickets than they would normally be entitled to for all future league and cup games.

After having previous allocations for Anfield cut, it did appear some progress was being made in ensuring gangways were kept clear when the percentage of tickets made available by Liverpool for their FA Cup fourth round tie last January was increased.

However, that just led to more problems and it is thought this is the reason behind next week's vote given similar issues occurred for the first time at Everton last term.

There has been no official word though and it is feared the overall allocation for tickets to the Liverpool match, amongst the most sought after of the season, could be reduced by 30%.

There is also bound to be high demand for Everton given it is the first game of the season, at Goodison Park, on August 20.

A United fans' representative has been invited to address Monday's meeting.

However, MUST chief executive Duncan Drasdo believes any meaningful input is virtually impossible given the lack of information being provided.

"When the only parties in a position to tell fans what is on the table choose not to, it is extremely difficult for fans to contribute to a fair process," said Drasdo.

"We would urge Liverpool, Everton and Liverpool City Council to tell us what allocations they are proposing to impose so we can give constructive feedback and do our bit towards making these two fixtures as safe as possible."
