Former Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar is set to become the next general manager of Ajax.
A statement on the club's official website read: "Ajax can confirm the club is in negotiations with Edwin van der Sar over a management job.
"But these negotiations have not yet concluded."
The Dutch side have been without a general manager following the exit of Louis van Gaal who had become embroiled in a power struggle with prominent director and club legend Johan Cruyff.
Cruyff now appears to have given the appointment of Van der Sar his blessing, paving the way for a deal to be completed.
The 130-times capped keeper would be assisted in his new role by local businessman Michael Kinsbergen and work alongside the current Ajax coach, his former team-mate Frank de Boer.
