Van Marwijk sacked by Hamburg
Bundesliga strugglers Hamburg have sacked manager Bert van Marwijk after suffering a seventh straight defeat.
A 4-2 reversal against rock-bottom Eintract Braunschweig on Saturday proved to be the final straw for the Dutch tactician.
A setback against the only side below them in the German top flight standings leaves Hamburg two points adrift of safety.
The club finished seventh in 2012/13, but are now scrapping to beat the drop.
They had turned to Van Marwijk - who quit as boss of the Holland national team in the wake of a disappointing showing at Euro 2012 - after enduring a testing start to the season, but he has lasted less than five months in the post.
"We felt obliged to take this decision now although at the same time we regret it," Hamburg's sporting director Oliver Kreuzer told the club's official website.
"We thank Bert van Marwijk for his work."
