Van Riemsdyk lifts Leafs

Toronto Maple Leafs winger James van Riemsdyk decided a 3-2 shootout victory over the New Jersey Devils in the NHL's Atlantic Division.

Tyler Bozak and Van Riemsdyk scored in regulation time but Ryane Clowe and Adam Henrique kept the Devils in the contest until Toronto goalie Jonathan Bernier stopped three shots in the shootout.

It was an unpleasant trip to Madison Square Garden for the Philadelphia Flyers as their hosts, the New York Rangers, cruised to an easy 4-1 win.

Dany Heatley, Jason Zucker and Matt Cooke scored the goals as the Predators suffered a third straight defeat.

The Chicago Blackhawks snapped a three-game losing streak by beating the Edmonton Oilers 5-3.

Andrew Shaw, Jonathan Toews, Brent Seabrook, Marian Hossa and Andrew Shaw scored Chicago's goals with Ales Hemsky, Boyd Gordon and Taylor Hall notching for the Oilers.

Elsewhere, the Anaheim Ducks edged the Detroit Red Wings 1-0 thanks to a solitary goal from Andrew Cogliano and the New York Islanders secured a fourth straight victory as John Tavares and Brock Nelson scored late on to book a 4-3 win against the Dallas Stars.
