Venus ends long wait for title
Venus Williams collected her first WTA Tour title in 32 months as she brushed aside Monica Niculescu 6-2 6-3 to win the Luxembourg Open.
The 32-year-old former world No 1 - now ranked a lowly 41 - broke serve twice in each set en route to registering a comfortable victory.
Williams, a seven-time Grand Slam champion and now a winner of 44 Tour titles, won eight of the last 11 games against the world No 70.
Niculescu, who is yet to claim her first Tour crown, was competing in only her second final having also lost the title decider in Luxembourg 12 months ago.
Going into this week's event, the American's most recent success had come in Acapulco back in February 2010.
