Villa boss happy with Holman

Aston Villa manager Paul Lambert has praised his predecessor Alex McLeish for having the foresight to sign Australia winger Brett Holman.

Former Birmingham boss McLeish was vilified by some sections of Villa fans before being sacked in May.

But Lambert believes the capture of 28-year-old Holman from AZ Alkmaar was a major plus point in McLeish's favour.

He said: "If Alex McLeish scouted Brett, then it's great credit to him because he's doing great for the club this season.

"Aston Villa are fortunate to have him. He's got energy to burn. I'm really happy with the way he's playing.

"If he keeps going the way he is, he's going to have a really good season. He's got a great desire for the game, a great enthusiasm for the game which is important."
