Vince hits ton before rain falls

James Vince fired his second County Championship century of the season to guide Hampshire to 289-3 before a premature close at the Ageas Bowl.

England Lions cap Vince blasted his way to an unbeaten 118 from 160 balls on the second day of the Division Two clash with Surrey.

The 23-year-old scored heavily after resuming on 24 not out overnight, to follow up his 144 in Hampshire's victory over Gloucestershire, completed on April 16.

Hampshire's vice captain blasted his century from just 102 balls, including 15 fours.

Captain Jimmy Adams started the day on 56 after Hampshire had closed day one at 153 for two, but he departed for 65, caught by Graeme Smith off the bowling of spinner Zafar Ansari.

Heavy rainfall and the sodden outfield restricted the day's play to a paltry 31 overs, during which time Will Smith also added an unbeaten 23.

With no play in the afternoon session, the umpires called the day's close at the tea interval.
