Vonn victorious in Maribor

Lindsey Vonn claimed a surprise win in the giant slalom as she edged out Slovenian home favourite Tina Maze in Maribor.

Vonn was third after the first run but her overall effort of two minutes 22.2 seconds saw her beat Maze by 0.08secs.

Austria's Anna Fenninger was third, 0.57 seconds behind Vonn.

Maze extended her lead in the overall World Cup standings to 748 points over Germany's Maria Hoefl-Riesch, who finished fourth.

Vonn is a further 66 points adrift in third, having missed several races while out through illness.

Having won the opening four races of the season, Maze still maintains a big lead in the giant slalom standings.
