Waites eases into last eight
Scott Waites made it through to the quarter-finals of the BDO World Championships with a 4-1 victory over Geert de Vos.
The Englishman - favourite for this year's title at Frimley Green after the top two seeds bowed out early - raced through the opening set in a hurry thanks to three legs in a row.
Although De Vos, who had come from 1-0 down to beat Tony Eccles in his first match, hauled himself back on to level terms, Waites took the third set in emphatic fashion with a 121 checkout.
This time, though, his Belgian opponent wasn't able to recover from falling behind; Waites landed a 148 finish to win the fourth set before cruising through the fifth.
His next opponent will be another Englishman in Paul Jennings, the man from Hartlepool having booked his place in the last eight with a resounding 4-0 triumph over Irishman Jason Cullen.
Meanwhile, Richie George came out on top by a 4-2 scoreline against fellow young gun Jimmy Hendriks in an entertaining last match on stage.
After losing the opening set, the son of the legendary Bobby George found double five on two occasions before wrapping up the second with a 129 finish. He then moved 2-1 ahead, only for his Dutch rival to edge a tense fourth that could have gone either way.
However, George pinched the deciding leg in the fifth to get his nose back in front and double tops at the first time of asking put paid to giantkiller Hendriks, who had knocked out Martin Adams in the first round.
Another Dutchman awaits 'Richie Rich' next, Jan Dekker having ruined Garry Thompson's 48th birthday with a 4-3 victory of his own.
