Wigan Warriors coach Shaun Wane admitted he was more happy with keeping the Catalan Dragons scoreless than scoring seven tries.
The Warriors cruised to a 38-0 Super League win at the DW Stadium on Friday night with Pat Richards marking his 200th appearance for the club with a brace of tries and five goals - but it was the defensive display which pleased Wane the most.
He said: "I would take the nil every day. I was pleased with our defence. They are a good team Catalan and are very skilful, but our defence for the majority of the game was good.
"It was a professional performance. What makes me feel good is that I know we can improve. There are a lot of areas in which we can improve on. We can get better in attack, we all know that. There is a lot of improvement in us yet."
Wane also paid tribute to winger Richards who marked his landmark appearance with his 150th career try for the Cherry and Whites.
"His try scoring record doesn't really bother me but to get 200 games is a marvellous achievement. We all like Paddy, he is just like a Wiganer and we wanted to do well for him," he said.
"I have been at this club since I was 15 and I have seen some top Australians and he is honestly up there with the top three I have played with and coached. He is that good. Not just on the field but the way he handles himself off it as well. He is very professional and he works hard on his skills and listens to us."
Wane was not pleased with a big hit on Sam Tomkins late in the game by Eloi Pelissier with the Wigan boss revealing that his star full-back had been knocked out.
He said: "He took a shoulder to his head and he was knocked out. He is not so good in the dressing room which is upsetting. He was very pale and he cannot remember any of the game which is very sad."
Dragons coach Laurent Frayssinous conceded his players were not only hurting in defeat but they were battered and bruised as well.
He said: "It was just not our night. I don't think there is actually 38 points difference between the two sides but tonight there was and we didn't deserve anything.
"The first half was quite tight but they scored a lucky try through a kick and they went on from that Wigan were patient all night, they started to build some pressure and we were unable to absorb it."
Frayssinous was also counting the cost of a few injuries with Thomas Bosc and Vincent Duport both leaving the field.
He added: "Bosc will probably have a scan on Monday, we are still unsure whether it is his leg, ankle or knee, Vincent Duport has injured his back and he should also have a scan. We have a lot of bruised bodies."
