Wanyama targets Saints record

Southampton midfielder Victor Wanyama is targeting a record points haul to cap off a fantastic season for the Saints.

Although Wanyama has been in and out of the team, the Kenya international has still played a key role in what has been a mightily impressive campaign for the Saints.

Mauricio Pochettino's men have been exceeded expectations and are just three points off equalling their highest-ever top-flight points tally, a target Wanyama is keen to reach.

"It's always good to challenge ourselves and if we can go beyond 52 then it would be a very good thing for us," Wanyama told the Southern Daily Echo.

"We just have to keep on working the same and we will be there."

The former Celtic star was left frustrated after his side missed several opportunities to take all three points from their 0-0 draw at Aston Villa at the weekend, but insists his side must move on.

"I don't know what happened and we are just frustrated we couldn't get maximum points," Wanyama added.

"We were really in control of the game and we were hoping to put one in the net, but we couldn't, so we just have to work hard and for the next game we improve."
