Ward hails young Pirates
Bristol Rovers manager John Ward praised his young side after they picked up their first point of the League Two campaign.
Depleted Rovers, already missing 10 players through injury, saw their ranks depleted further when skipper and central defender Tom Parkes was stretchered off in the first half after being knocked unconscious in a tussle with striker Deon Burton.
Although there were few clear opportunities for the home side David Clarkson went close from just outside the box as they got off the mark for the new campaign. Ward said: "We're off the mark with our first point from what was a very tight game.
"The situation we are in at the moment means everyone has to pull their weight.
"The kids are putting the shirt on and giving it a real good go - and I think our fans appreciate that
"Hopefully in a few weeks we can get some senior players back to help them out."
