British number one Heather Watson lost in the second round of the Pattaya Open to unseeded Anastasija Sevastova on Thursday.
The 20-year-old eighth seed lost a tight first set but fought back to comfortably take the second set.
However her 22-year-old Latvian opponent closed out the match in Thailand convincingly to record a 7-6 (7/4) 4-6 6-2 victory in two hours 26 minutes.
Earlier on court one there was an even bigger shock when top seed Ana Ivanovic was dumped out of the tournament, losing 3-6 7-5 3-6 to Japan's Ayumi Morita in the first round. The game had been delayed due to rain.
