Watson into main draw in Brisbane

British number three Heather Watson defeated Jarmila Gajdosova 6-4 6-4 on Sunday to advance to the main draw of the Brisbane International.

The Guernsey-born 21-year-old, ranked 121 in the world after a troubled end to the 2013 season during which she battled glandular fever, broke her Slovak-Australian opponent six times during the 92-minute final-qualifying match.

Watson, who rallied from a set down to sink world number 80 Chanelle Scheepers of South Africa in the second round of qualifying on Saturday, will now take her place in a high-quality main draw which also includes the world's top two players, Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka.
