Watson makes winning return
Heather Watson marked her return from injury with victory in the first round of a tournament in France.
The British number three had not played a match since losing to Virginie Razzano in Miami in mid-March - a match in which she had to serve under-arm at times because of a shoulder problem.
She has also been struggling with a rib injury but put her troubles behind her with a 6-4 7-6 (8/6) win over Giulia Gatto-Monticone in Cagnes-sur-Mer.
The tournament is one of the biggest on the second tier ITF circuit.
Watson, ranked 122nd, has already won a title at the same level in the USA earlier this season.
Injury problems came at the wrong time for Watson, who loves clay and would have hoped to push her ranking high enough for direct entry into the French Open later this month.
She played only one match on clay last season, losing in the first round at Roland Garros following a two-month absence because of glandular fever.
