Wednesday stars to learn fate

Sheffield Wednesday manager Stuart Gray expects to confirm later this week which players will be leaving the club in the summer.

Goalkeeper Chris Kirkland, plus defenders Reda Johnson and Anthony Gardner, are among 10 senior players whose current contracts are due to expire on July 1.

Gray had waited until after the club had guaranteed their Sky Bet Championship status before sanctioning talks over new deals and held one-on-one assessments with each of his players on Sunday.

"It's never a pleasant task, but one that is part and parcel of being at a football club," Gray said after his side's 2-1 weekend defeat at Ipswich.

"There will be players leaving and they will be the first to know before the club make a statement, probably around the middle of next week."

Wednesday closed the season with three straight defeats and one win from their last eight matches to finish nine points above the relegation zone in 16th place.
