Weekley in Tampa Bay contention

Boo Weekley shot the lowest round of the week to take the clubhouse lead on the final day of the Tampa Bay Championship.

The American charged up the leaderboard with birdies on three of his first nine holes on the Copperhead Course, but better was to come after the turn as he hit five more birdies in a back-nine 30.

Weekley signed for an eight-under-par 63 after his bogey-free round and leads in the clubhouse on the same mark after beginning the day on level par following three solid if unspectacular rounds.

He leads by five strokes from those already in the clubhouse, but will face an anxious wait to see if he can stay at the head of the pack with around a dozen players with realistic victory hopes still out on the course.

Chief among his challengers is Kevin Streelman, who made gains on the first and the third to join Weekley on eight under after eight holes of his final round.

Greg Chalmersand Justin Leonard are a stroke back on seven under after nine and eight holes respectively, while defending champion Luke Donald was among a host of players on six under after 10 holes of his final round.
