Wenger praises Arsenal spirit
Arsene Wenger believes Arsenal have demonstrated the strength of their spirit after a 3-0 victory over Newcastle United tightened their grip on fourth spot.
A 3-0 defeat at Everton earlier this month placed Arsenal's UEFA Champions League prospects in doubt, with Roberto Martinez's side gaining the upper hand in the race for fourth.
However, Arsenal have responded to their Goodison Park setback by winning three games in a row and have also seen Everton lose twice.
Arsenal are now four points clear of Everton, with two games to play, and a 17th consecutive qualification for the Champions League is within their grasp.
"We have gone through a difficult period, and Goodison Park was one of them," Wenger told Sky Sports.
"I believe that the spirit in the side is healthy, strong, determined and you can see that when the team is capable of bouncing back after a big disappointment."
Mesut Ozil scored one goal and had a hand in another in what was the Germany international's second appearance since returning from over a month out with a hamstring injury.
Wenger praised Ozil's contribution and he also expects the club's record signing to offer even more for Arsenal next season.
The Arsenal boss added: "He is getting stronger in every game now. He's refreshed.
"It's his first season over here and over Christmas he suffered a bit physically. Now he looks sharp again and refreshed, mentally sharp to play and that's why his performance is good.
"I believe that the first season is always about adaptation in the Premier League.
"What he has brought is fantastic technique, simplicity in his game, intelligence of passing. If you look at his numbers, his assists and his passes in the final third are very good.
"We want some more goals from him and I think that will come naturally."
