Wetherby goes ahead

Saturday afternoon's fixture at Wetherby goes ahead after course officials cancelled plans to inspect the course this morning.

The valuable card at the Yorkshire circuit had been in jeopardy due to the prospect of waterlogging.

Ten millimetres of rainfall on Friday did not help matters, but a dry night ensured the meeting was able to be given the go-ahead without the need for a precautionary inspection at 8am.

Feature race is the Grade Two totepool Towton Novices' Chase, while the current going is heavy.

Clerk of the course Jonjo Sanderson said: "The rain came as predicted, but 10mm is not an awful amount of rain and it had stopped (raining) by around 7.30pm.

"That gave the ground plenty of time to soak up the rain and drain it away.

"It's good news - I'm very pleased."
