Whittingham will not give up

Peter Whittingham believes there is still all to play for as Cardiff City scrap to secure their Premier League status.

A priceless 1-0 victory away at Southampton last Saturday has offered the Bluebirds fresh hope in their bid to climb out of the bottom three.

They remain second from bottom in the standings at present, but are now just three points from safety.

With Norwich City - the side they are looking to chase down in 17th - still having to take in fixtures against Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea, anything is possible from this point.

Whittingham believes that is the mind-set Cardiff have to adopt as they enter the final four games of their first season back in the big time.

He said in The Sun: "You look at Norwich's run-in. It's hard for them but at the same time we still need to pick up points ourselves.

"But Southampton was a great result for us. We've been confident of staying up but a win like that makes us even more confident."

Ahead of a home date with in-form Stoke City on Saturday, Whittingham added: "It's going to be a hard game against Stoke but we need to get back-to-back wins now.

"It's not impossible staying up. If we can beat Stoke it opens things right up for us."
