Wie makes solid start

Michelle Wie fired a flawless five-under 66 in her first round since winning the US Women's Open last weekend.

The American maintained her momentum from Pinehurst with four birdies on the back nine in the opening round of the 54-hole NW Arkansas Championship which left her just one stroke behind leader Alena Sharp.

Canadian Sharp's 65 contained seven birdies and just 27 putts and it tied her lowest round of the year as she claimed a first-round lead for the first time in her career.

Alejandra Llaneza of Mexico also opened with a 66 at the Pinnacle Country Club in Rogers to share second place with Wie behind world No 234 Sharp.

World No 1 Stacy Lewis, who graduated from the University of Arkansas, carded a 70 which put her in a tie for 43rd place, while defending champion Inbee Park of South Korea is joint-25th after shooting a 69.

Sweden's Caroline Hedwall is the leading European among a group of 10 on four under.

Catriona Matthew of Scotland and England's Jodi Ewart Shadoff both opened with rounds of 69.
