Wilder: People wrote us off

Chris Wilder is ready to prove Northampton's doubters wrong after they climbed closer to safety with a 1-0 win over Accrington.

Winger Chris Hackett scored the winner in a must-win match to see off Stanley and boost the Cobblers fight for survival - although they remain in the bottom two.

There are five games left to play and Wilder is targeting big performances like the Accrington one in every match.

"There are going to be a lot of twists and turns and I am sure people have written Northampton off," said Wilder.

"Hopefully we can use this fact to our advantage as we have got to use anything we can to our benefit.

"We deserved the win over Accrington and, before the game, I said we had to find a way to win and we did.

"We scored early on and then it was a long time to hold on. It was important we scored the first goal as, in the past, we have conceded first and you could see we have drained.

"But, in this game, we gave ourselves something to hang onto and fight for and we could have had more goals but we were also blocking efforts and tackles at the end. We did what we had to do - and it was a committed performance.

"We need big results and big performances in the final five games and, with this result, we have dragged others back into it."
