Wilson heaps praise on Evans
Boss Danny Wilson hailed the strong character of match-winner Ched Evans following Sheffield United's 1-0 win at Hartlepool on Saturday.
After being overtaken by city rivals Wednesday in League One following their lunchtime win over Preston, the pressure was on the Blades to get back in the top two, and Evans' late penalty proved decisive at Victoria Park.
Evans rolled home from the spot nine minutes from time after he was bundled over in the penalty area by Sam Collins.
"Ched Evans took the penalty well, calmness personified," said Wilson.
"People can show stress in those circumstances and he was as cool as a cucumber - it shows what kind of temperament the boy has got.
"We have won, but we didn't even look at the game taking place before ours, we didn't know Wednesday had won. If we get a result or not, all we can do is make sure our own house is in order and we have done that.
"Maybe this result has knocked a bit of stuffing out of one or two of other teams around us as they didn't expect us to win this one. To win anything you need, at this stage of the season, big performances and we got that."
