Dunfermline have been issued with a winding up order from Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs over £134,000 in unpaid taxes.
The club also owes around £450,000 to creditors - including Raith Rovers and Cowdenbeath - and players and staff have faced repeated wage delays recently.
Speaking after a recent fans' forum, club legend Jim Leishman said: "I'm not sure how many days we've got left, it depends on other people - but we know it's not months away, it is weeks.
"We need a mixture of supporters and business people - we need the blend to drive it forward.
"The supporters will be playing a major part in the future of Dunfermline but the business community has got to come and give the club its support as well."
Another former Pars stalwart, Sir Alex Ferguson, has suggested that he would be prepared to send a Manchester United side to East End Park in a bid to raise much-needed funds.
