Woodman: Exeter better than this

Exeter defender Craig Woodman says the club should not have been in a relegation battle.

The Grecians only secured their League Two status with a 2-0 win over Scunthorpe on Saturday with the former Brentford left-back opening the scoring with a long-range effort.

But City, who have won just six home games all season, suffered a season to forget having narrowly missed out on the play-offs last time around and Woodman says it is vital that 2014/15 does not see a repeat display.

"We are not a bad team and we shouldn't be where we are," he told the Western Morning News. "Unfortunately, these things happen and I am just relieved we are out of [danger] now and we can finish it off at Hartlepool next week.

"It was nice to win like that in front of our home fans. It has been a bit disappointing because we haven't played particularly well here.

"But we know we have performances like that in us and, thankfully, we managed to find it when we needed it most.

"We have done it away from home and it has worked well for us and maybe it is something to look at for next season."
