Wozniacki out in New Haven
Caroline Wozniacki missed out on the chance to gain some extra match practice ahead of the US Open as she lost in the second round of the WTA Connecticut Open.
The Dane - a four-time champion at the tournament in New Haven who was seeded fourth this year - went down 6-4 6-2 to Camila Giorgi in 78 minutes.
It wasn't the first time former world No 1 Wozniacki had suffered defeat against the same opponent - the Italian also knocked her out in the final Grand Slam of last year at Flushing Meadows.
"I knew I was going to get limited break chances and when I did get them, I didn't convert," Wozniacki said.
"I knew I had to be aggressive out there and try to push her back, but I didn't manage to do that. She played well and I didn't."
Giorgi's reward is a quarter-final against Spain's Garbine Muguruza, who eliminated Chinese qualifier Peng Shuai 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in her second-round match.
