Chesterfield caretaker boss Tommy Wright was happy with his side's goalless draw at Northampton on Saturday afternoon.
The improving Spireites extended their unbeaten run to seven league games following the stalemate and could have won it had they taken their chances.
Top scorer Jack Lester went closest to nicking all three points either side of the break, hitting the crossbar and then shooting just wide, while Craig Westcarr and Sam Togwell had squandered earlier chances for the visitors. But, in truth, neither side really did enough to clinch victory.
Wright said: "That was a good result for us. It's out first clean sheet of the season and it's another point on the board.
"We knew what we were going to deal with here, against a team who are doing very well, especially at home, and I thought we dealt with them very well. our back four were exceptional.
"Our commitment and discipline was very good and we knew it would have to be at set plays because Northampton are especially good at those. I'm over the moon really because it was a physical battle, we had to compete and we knew we would have to do that here."
