Yates has Baker support

Cheltenham Town's chairman Paul Baker has thrown his full support behind manager Mark Yates.

The Robins are without a win in five games and have slipped to 14th in League Two having been losing semi-finalists last season but chairman Baker revealed that they are keen to keep Yates and assistant Neil Howarth at the club having handed them a vote of confidence.

"Managerial appointments are the most important decision we are going to make and I just think what Mark and Neil have done for the club since their appointment is very difficult to fault," he told the club's official website.

"There have been far more positives than negatives. Management teams will make mistakes and they will have good seasons as well as bad seasons.

"After two seasons in the play-offs no-one has a right to expect that Mark should deliver yet again a play-off or automatic position when you've got a budget that indicates you should be half way.

"I think Mark and Neil have earned the right to be talking about an extra contract and I think it's right for us to be giving them that vote of confidence and security and that is what I hope we will be concluding in the next few weeks."
