York glory for York Glory?
Trainer Kevin Ryan will step York Glory up from handicaps into top company in the Nunthorpe Stakes at York next Friday.
The grey was a very impressive winner of the Wokingham at Royal Ascot, yet he struggled at Goodwood in the Stewards' Cup off a 9lb higher mark.
Ryan had always intended to step him up in class and will get the chance to see how he copes on the Knavesmire.
"After a furlong he was never going to win the Stewards' Cup but he's come out of the race well, he's in good form, and he'll take his chance in the Nunthorpe," the North Yorkshire handler told At The Races.
"He's a horse that we've always thought a hell of a lot of.
"After the Wokingham we had to take our chance in the Stewards' Cup but after that we were always going to step up.
"Of course the Nunthorpe is going to be a very strong race but he likes York and we'll let him take his chance.
"In the sprint division it's probably easier to take that step, it's harder when you go up in trip. I've always regarded him as a Group horse."
