Zakopalova eases into semis
Top seed Klara Zakopalova breezed into the semi-finals of the Rio Open after a 6-4 6-0 win over Katarzyna Piter.
The Czech player was pushed hard in the opening set, dropping her serve twice, but completely dominated the second to wrap up the win in an hour and 15 minutes.
Poland's Piter faced a total of 17 break points, managing to save 11 but being unable to stop her opponent from breaking on six occasions.
Zakopalova will face home hope Teliana Pereira in the last four after the Brazilian clinched a 6-4 6-4 win over Irina-Camelia Begu 6-4 6-4.
The other semi-final will see Italian qualifier Natassja Burnett take on Japan's fifth seed Kurumi Nara.
Burnett fought back from a set down to shock third seed Paula Ormaechea 5-7 6-2 7-5, while Nara was 7-6 (7-5) 2-0 up against Lourdes Dominguez Lino when the Spaniard retired from the clash.
