Zarshana shines in Minerve

Zarshana gave the Aga Khan another win in the Prix Minerve at Deauville when arriving with a strong finish under Christophe Soumillon.

The Group Three event for three-year-olds over an extended mile and a half had attracted a trio of cross-Channel raiders and it was those three who set the pace, with Ralph Beckett's Honor Bound leading from Criteria and Marsh Daisy.

As the field straightened up for home, the whole complexion of the race changed and as the British runners weakened, it was Alain de Royer-Dupre's recent Longchamp winner and 2/1 favourite Zarshana, a sister to the brilliant Zarkava, who took advantage from the closing Game Zone.

The most recent of the owner's numerous wins in this race had been from Shareta in 2011.

Soumillon told "I decided to leave my challenge as late as possible, because she tends to idle when she hits the front. When I asked her to pick up, she responded very well to win. She's expected to improve with age. "
