The Hives have revealed they will release a Christmas single featuring Cyndi Lauper.

'Howlin' Pelle Almqvist's Swedish garage rock band announced the existence of the "weird" collaboration, 'A Christmas Duel', on their official website.
 
They told fans: "It may sound weird and come as a surprise to some, but we had to. It came to us.
 
"It landed in our lap and was way too good to shake or toss. We knew we had to record it. A sign if you will."

'A Christmas Duel' will be released as a free download, available from 28 November.
 
The Hives will be in competition with a host of credible rock bands vowing for the Christmas No.1 spot.
 
The Killers have recorded 'Joseph, Better Me Than You' with Elton John and Neil Tennant, while Glasvegas have an entire mini-album of festive tunes, A Snowflake Fell (And It Felt Like A Kiss).
