match report

Darren Bravo's unbeaten ton helped West Indies beat Middlesex in their tour match.

Bravo, who averaged only 16 in the Test series against England, returned to form with an unbeaten century as the tourists warmed up for the three one-day internationals by crushing a below-strength Middlesex by 228 runs at Lord's.

Chris Gayle managed only a brief cameo of 34 off 30 balls on his return to the West Indies team after a 15-month absence.

However, Dwayne Smith hit 96 and Dwayne Bravo a rapid 40 not out to lift them to an intimidating 335 for four from their 50 overs.

It was always going to be too many for a Middlesex side containing only four regular first team players and they collapsed to 107 all out, with Gayle taking the last two wickets in three balls with his off-spin.

Gayle, who last played for the West Indies in the World Cup quarter-final against Pakistan in Dhaka in March last year, had hit four fours and two sixes before he holed out to wide midwicket off Anthony Ireland.

Lendl Simmons soon followed, stumped by one-day debutant Adam Rossington off Paul Stirling's off-spin - but Smith then joined Darren Bravo in a third wicket partnership of 155 in 35 overs.

Smith hit two massive sixes, one of which landed on the top tier of the pavilion, and 10 fours in his 96 off 81 balls and was annoyed with himself for missing out on a century when he drove Tim Murtagh straight to mid-on.

Kieron Pollard was dropped twice before he was well held by Stirling at backward point off Josh Davey for 18 but there was no stopping Darren Bravo and half-brother Dwayne as they put on 73 in six overs.

Darren finished unbeaten on 112 off 112 balls with seven fours and two sixes while Dwayne had 40 off 21 balls including two fours and three sixes

The Middlesex reply never got off the ground as Andre Russell, another of the seven players drafted in for the one-day internationals, and Ravi Rampaul picked up two wickets and Dwayne Bravo one in the first 13 overs.

Only Dawid Malan and Adam Rossington offered much resistance after that and to compound Middlesex's misery Robbie Williams suffered a suspected broken collarbone trying to take a catch.
