commentary

Over 16. 10 runs. Bowler: Ashok Menaria. Delhi Daredevils: 144/4(rr 9.00)

SIX! Menaria to Ojha. Stock length ball, outside off stump on the front foot driving, well timed in the air under control over deep extra cover for 6 runs. That's a very easy win for Delhi. That batting was just far too powerful for the Rajasthan bowlers. They do the double over Rajasthan and cement their place as IPL 2012 favourites. Sehwag was at his superb best, but there was never any pressure on him after Rajasthan spluttered their way to a below par total of 141. The only thing that could throw a spanner in the works for Delhi is Pietersen departing, but they have Davis Warner to slot in, so they will still be very strong.

FOUR! Menaria to Ojha. Stock length ball, outside off stump on the back foot cutting, well timed past deep backward point for 4 runs.

Over 15. 6 runs. Bowler: Brad Hogg. Delhi Daredevils: 134/4(rr 8.93)

Hogg to Nagar. Chinaman length ball, middle stump on the front foot working, well timed to deep mid wicket for 2 runs, fielded by Rahane.

Hogg to Ojha. Chinaman length ball, middle stump on the front foot dropped, to mid wicket for 1 run.

OUT! Caught. Hogg to Sehwag. Googly length ball, outside off stump on the front foot driving, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to backward point, fielded by Dravid. That's unfortunate as Sehwag deserved to carry his bat. Excellent knock.

Over 14. 6 runs. Bowler: Shane Watson. Delhi Daredevils: 128/3(rr 9.14)

Watson to Nagar. Length ball, middle stump on the back foot working, well timed to deep square leg for 1 run, fielded by Shah.

Over 12. 8 runs. Bowler: Brad Hogg. Delhi Daredevils: 110/3(rr 9.17)

APPEAL! Hogg to Sehwag. Chinaman length ball, middle stump backing away Steer, missed to wicketkeeper for no runs, fielded by Goswami, appeal made for Caught. There was no bat in that. Simple decision.

FOUR! Hogg to Sehwag. Chinaman length ball, outside off stump on the back foot Late Cut, well timed past third man for 4 runs.

OUT! Caught. Hogg to Taylor. Quicker ball back of a length, middle stump on the back foot pulling, top edge in the air uncontrolled to short leg, fielded by Goswami. Taylor is out of form, but that was a silly shot at this stage. Another couple of wickets and this could turn interesting.

OUT! Caught. Watson to Pietersen. Length ball, outside off stump on the front foot driving, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to long off, fielded by Shah. Pietersen could have probably got his team across the line, but wanted to go out of the IPL in style. Delhi should coast home from here.

Watson to Pietersen. Slower length ball, off stump on the back foot defending, back to bowler for no runs, fielded by Watson.

Over 10. 8 runs. Bowler: Brad Hogg. Delhi Daredevils: 96/1(rr 9.60)

Rajasthan Royals141-6 (20 ovs)
Delhi Daredevils144-4 (15.2 ovs)

match report

Delhi Daredevils stayed top of the IPL as Virender Sehwag hit a brutal 73 not out to secure a six-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday.

Delhi have now won eight of their 10 matches, this time chasing down a winning target on 142 in just 15.2 overs.

Rajasthan skipper Rahul Dravid (57) shared an opening stand of 71 with the Ajinkya Rahane (42) but after Pawan Negi broke them up, the innings faltered.

Negi returned four for 18 as the score reached 141 for six, Shreevats Goswami the only other batsman to hit double figures.

Ankeet Chavan then removed Mahela Jayawardene with the third ball of the reply, but Sehwag was in devastating form.

He took just 38 balls over his 73no, striking 12 fours and a six.

Kevin Pietersen contributed 36 at better than a run-a-ball in support as Delhi coasted to victory despite Brad Hogg's two wickets.
