Mumbai Indians v Kolkata Knight Riders
Wed 16 May 2012, 03:30pm BST, 08:00pm local
Kolkata Knight Riders win by 32 runs
| Kolkata Knight Riders | 140-7 (20 ovs) |
|---|---|
| Mumbai Indians | 108 (19.1 ovs) |
Over 20. no runs. Bowler: Sunil Narine. Mumbai Indians: 108/10(rr 5.40)
OUT! Caught. Narine to Singh. Off break half volley, off stump on the front foot Slog, well timed in the air under control to deep mid wicket, fielded by Abdulla. Kolkata Knight Riders win by 32 runs. Singh struck it nicely but he succeeded only in finding Abdulla on the boundary, and Narine finishes with 4-15, yet another fantastic display from the young off spinner. Kolkata's first innings wasn't easy on the eye but 140 turned out to be a good total on a tough batting pitch. Tendulkar and Karthik batted nicely but couldn't accelerate after making starts, and from then on the spinners dominated the innings. Excellent captaincy from Gambhir kept the Mumbai Indians on the back foot, and Narine was clinical, taking three wickets with his last seven balls to finish the innings.
Over 19. 3 runs. Bowler: Lakshmipathy Balaji. Mumbai Indians: 108/9(rr 5.68)
OUT! Caught. Balaji to Malinga. Short, outside off stump on the back foot pulling, mis-timed in the air uncontrolled to long on, fielded by Tiwary. An easy catch for Tiwary, and Balaji gets his second wicket. Malinga had no real choice there, he had to try and hit a boundary, and unfortunately he just couldn't find the middle of the blade with that shot. Narine will bowl the last over of the day as Kolkata look to wrap things up.
Balaji to Malinga. Short, outside off stump on the back foot hooking, missed to wicketkeeper for no runs, fielded by McCullum.
Balaji to Singh. Slower ball short, outside off stump on the back foot hooking, well timed to deep backward square leg for 1 run, fielded by Bhatia.
Balaji to Malinga. Length ball, outside off stump no foot movement driving, well timed to long off for 1 run, fielded by Abdulla.
Balaji to Singh. Short, outside off stump on the back foot pulling, top edge in the air uncontrolled to gully for 1 run, fielded by Gambhir.
Balaji to Singh. Length ball, wide outside off stump on the back foot driving, bottom edge back to bowler for no runs, fielded by Balaji.
It looks impossible for the Mumbai Indians now, as they have just 12 balls to get 36 runs.
Over 18. 8 runs. Bowler: Sunil Narine. Mumbai Indians: 105/8(rr 5.83)
Narine to Singh. Off break length ball, outside off stump on the back foot working, well timed to backward square leg for 1 run.
OUT! Caught. Narine to Sharma. Off break length ball, outside off stump on the front foot working, leading edge in the air uncontrolled to silly point, fielded by McCullum. Leading edge and the big wicket falls. It wasn't in the air for long and McCullum had to scamper to dive and make the catch, so credit must go to the wicket-keeper.
Narine to Malinga. Off break length ball, off stump no foot movement slog sweeping, thick edge to deep mid wicket for 1 run, fielded by Bhatia.
SIX! Narine to Malinga. Off break length ball, to leg down the track driving, well timed in the air under control over long on for 6 runs, dropped catch by Das. Dropped! Malinga took on the spinner and sent it straight to Das who spilled it, much in the same way Tendulkar did to Gambhir in the first innings.
Narine to Malinga. Doosra length ball, outside off stump no foot movement pushing, missed to wicketkeeper for no runs, fielded by McCullum.
OUT! Caught. Narine to Singh. Off break length ball, wide outside off stump moves in front Slog, mis-timed in the air under control to long on, fielded by Tiwary. Batsmen are falling like dominoes, and it's Sunil Narine who has struck again. Singh struck it nicely but just couldn't get enough power on it to beat Tiwary at long on.
Over 17. 7 runs. Bowler: Jacques Kallis. Mumbai Indians: 97/6(rr 5.71)
Kallis to Singh. Length ball, outside off stump on the front foot pushing, well timed to long off for 1 run.
OUT! L.B.W. Kallis to Smith. Leg cutter length ball, off stump on the back foot working, hit pad to backward point. Two in two for Kallis! That could have been missing leg and there may well have been an inside edge too, but the decision is final.
OUT! Caught. Kallis to Pollard. Off cutter bouncer, outside off stump on the back foot hooking, outside edge to wicketkeeper, fielded by McCullum. Pollard goes after a slower ball bouncer and gets a thin edge through to McCullum. Had he left it alone it would probably have been called a wide.
Kallis to Sharma. Off cutter half volley, off stump on the front foot flick, well timed to long on for 1 run, fielded by Tiwary.
FOUR! Kallis to Sharma. Half volley, outside off stump on the front foot driving, well timed past deep extra cover for 4 runs.
Kallis to Pollard. Full toss, middle stump backing away driving, bat-pad to short leg for 1 run, fielded by McCullum.
Over 16. 10 runs. Bowler: Shakib Al Hasan. Mumbai Indians: 90/4(rr 5.62)
Al Hasan to Pollard. Stock ball full toss, outside off stump on the front foot Slog, thick edge to deep mid wicket for 1 run, fielded by Narine.
APPEAL! Al Hasan to Pollard. Stock ball half volley, outside off stump on the front foot driving, well timed to deep backward point for 2 runs, fielded by Pathan, appeal made for Run Out. A wonderful throw from Yusuf Pathan but Pollard was rapid between the stumps and just made his ground.
FOUR! Al Hasan to Pollard. Stock length ball, off stump down the track driving, well timed in the air under control past deep mid wicket for 4 runs.
OUT! Stumped. Al Hasan to Rayudu. Stock ball half volley, outside off stump down the track driving, missed to wicketkeeper, fielded by McCullum. Shakib sees Rayudu advancing and bowls it wider at the last second. Rayudu misses with the lofted cover drive and McCullum whips the bails off in a flash. That could be the death knell for the Mumbai Indians. Enter Kieron Pollard.
Al Hasan to Sharma. Stock ball half volley, down leg side on the front foot slog sweeping, well timed to deep square leg for 1 run, fielded by Narine.
Al Hasan to Sharma. Stock ball half volley, off stump on the front foot driving, outside edge in the air uncontrolled to third man for 2 runs, fielded by Balaji. Risky running and if the throw from Balaji had been better they might have got a run out.
61 runs needed from 30 balls.
Over 15. 3 runs. Bowler: Jacques Kallis. Mumbai Indians: 80/3(rr 5.33)
Kallis to Rayudu. Yorker, off stump no foot movement driving, well timed to deep cover for no runs.

Over 14. 10 runs. Bowler: Iqbal Abdulla. Mumbai Indians: 77/3(rr 5.50)
Abdulla to Rayudu. Stock ball full toss, outside off stump down the track driving, well timed back to bowler for no runs, fielded by Abdulla. Strategic Time Out.

Abdulla to Rayudu. Stock length ball, off stump on the front foot driving, well timed to long off for 1 run.
SIX! Abdulla to Rayudu. Stock length ball, off stump down the track driving, well timed in the air under control over long on for 6 runs. Rayudu explodes out of his crease and sends it into the crowds.
Abdulla to Sharma. Stock ball half volley, outside off stump on the front foot pushing, well timed to mid on for 1 run, run save by Abdulla.
Abdulla to Rayudu. Stock length ball, outside off stump on the front foot flick, well timed to long on for 1 run.
Over 13. 4 runs. Bowler: Lakshmipathy Balaji. Mumbai Indians: 67/3(rr 5.15)
Balaji to Rayudu. Back of a length, outside off stump on the back foot Steer, well timed to third man for 1 run.
OUT! Caught. Balaji to Karthik. Off cutter back of a length, outside off stump on the back foot pulling, well timed in the air under control to fine leg, fielded by Pathan. The runs had dried up and Karthik tried to get things going with a pull shot. He connected well with the short ball but unfortunately sent it straight down the throat of Yusuf Pathan.
Balaji to Sharma. Length ball, off stump no foot movement working, hit pad to gully for no runs, fielded by McCullum.
Balaji to Karthik. Yorker, off stump no foot movement flick, leading edge in the air uncontrolled to deep cover for 1 run, fielded by Narine.

Over 11. 1 run. Bowler: Sunil Narine. Mumbai Indians: 60/2(rr 5.45)
OUT! Bowled. Narine to Tendulkar. Off break length ball, outside off stump on the back foot cutting, inside edge. Sunil Narine, arguably the best spinner in the IPL, has bowled the little master. It beats the inside edge, deflects off the pad and knocks out the stumps. Pace, bounce and turn - he has it all.
Narine to Tendulkar. Off break length ball, outside off stump on the front foot pushing, bat-pad to gully for no runs, fielded by McCullum.
