Sri Lanka v Pakistan

Pakistan win by 6 wickets (D/L Method)
| Sri Lanka | 135-8 (42 ovs) |
|---|---|
| Pakistan | 135-4 (34.1 ovs) |
Over 35. 1 run. Bowler: Thisara Perera. Pakistan: 135/4(rr 3.86)
Perera to Afridi. In-swinging length ball, middle stump on the front foot pushing, to mid wicket for 1 run, fielded by Mathews. A tame end to the match which was dominated by Pakistan. Two early wickets to the impressive opening attack gave Sri Lanka some hope, but the scoring rate was never enough to entice Pakistan to play rash shots. The good balls could be occasionally pushed into gaps and the odd bad ball could be punished, and there was even the luxury of the option to leave several deliveries. Mohammad Hafeez, Misbah-ul-Haq and Umar Akmal all got into the thirties, with young Akmal getting some licence to play some bold shots as the winning tape came into view. The bowlers all had tidy figures, but given the batting disaster earlier in the day exceptional was what was needed rather than tidy. So Pakistan go one up in the series, with four to play. The second match will be on Saturday at the same venue. Umar Gul did bowl exceptionally to wreck the Sri Lankan top order, and he has been named Man of the Match.

Pakistan win by 6 wickets (D/L Method)
| Sri Lanka | 135-8 (42 ovs) |

Umar Akmal's unbeaten 36 off 48 balls helped Pakistan claim a six-wicket victory in the rain-affected first ODI with Sri Lanka at Pallekele.
Pakistan reached their Duckworth/Lewis target of 135 with 47 balls to spare thanks in large part to Akmal's swift scoring, coming after Mohammad Hafeez had made a more sedate 37 off 57 deliveries and Misbah-ul-Haq 30 off 79.
After they had restricted Sri Lanka to 135 for eight in 42 overs, Pakistan got off to a worrying start as the early losses of Azhar Ali (three) and Younus Khan (five) had them on 27 for two.
But Hafeez and Misbah restored order and, once the runs began to flow, there was little doubt that they would reach their target as long as the weather held off.
The honour of scoring the winning run fell to Shahid Afridi, who was two not out in a short cameo.
Sri Lanka were always facing a tough time after a top-order collapse at the start of the day.
The top four all went for single figures, with Mahela Jayawardene (three), Tillakaratne Dilshan (five), Kumar Sangakkara (nine) and Dinesh Chandimal (nought) all failing to make an impact and leaving their side tottering on 56 for six.
Lahiru Thirimanne made 42 to stem the tide, but support was in short supply.
Mohammad Sami took three for 19 and Umar Gul three for 24 for Pakistan.
