The plot: After 14 years of marriage, Nader and wife Simin are on the brink of separation. She is desperate to leave Tehran so their 11-year-old daughter Termeh does not have to grow up under the tough rule. However, Nader refuses to move because he has an elderly father, who suffers from Alzheimer's, and needs constant care. Simin files for divorce but the court does not grant her motion, believing that she does not have sufficient grounds to terminate the marriage contract.
