The plot: Georges and Anne are elderly married couple, whose balmy retirement is shattered when she suffers a minor stroke. As Anne's condition deteriorates and she makes clear her suffering - "I don't want to go on..." - Georges clings on forlornly to memories of the past to stave off despair. Infrequent visits from the couple's daughter Eva provides a temporary respite but Georges acknowledges that his time with Anne is coming to an end and soon he must face life alone.
