The plot: In 1979, militants storm the US Embassy in Tehran and hold 52 Americans hostage. Six members of staff escape to the nearby residence of the Canadian ambassador and hide in a basement crawl space. CIA extractor Tony Mendez concocts an elaborate scheme to rescue the sextet from the danger zone: he will pose as a film producer who has come to Iran to scout for locations for a sci-fi epic called Argo.
