The plot: King Fergus of Clan DunBroch and his wife Queen Elinor plan to marry off their tomboy daughter Merida to the first-born son of one of the other clans. Merida rebels and disrupts the Highland Games, which have been designed to test the suitors, then flees into the forest where she crosses paths with a witch and foolishly wishes for a spell to change her mother, in the hope this will put an end to the arranged marriage.
