The plot: Alan Cowan and his wife Nancy visit the Brooklyn apartment of Michael and Penelope Longstreet to apologise for their son Zachary, who has hit the Longstreets' son Ethan in the face with a stick, resulting in two broken incisors, nerve damage and swelling to the boy's upper lip. The meeting is intended to be brief and courteous but as the conversation develops, tensions become evident.
