The plot: When a member of staff at a Long Island school is waylaid, Principal Carol Dearden drafts in supply teacher Henry Barthes to take control of the class until the end of term. He stands his ground against the unruly students and inspires one girl to nurture her artistic talents. Henry's focus changes when he runs into teenage prostitute Erica and offers her a place to stay for the night. A strange friendship develops between the educator and the working girl.
