The plot: Twelve-year-old Ted Wiggins lives in Thneed-ville with his mother and feisty grandmother Norma. The mayor of Thneed-ville, Aloysius O'Hare, provides the residents with everything they need except for real plants. Ted pines for the girl of his dreams, Audrey, whose one burning wish is to see a real tree. So Ted embarks on a quest to meet a hermit called the Once-ler, who apparently knows the secret of why all of the trees disappeared from Thneed-ville.

what the others say

Total Film

"The Lorax is immensely colourful, catchy and cheery. Then again, it's also gaudy, bland and recycled. You can do better."

Empire

"Lovely to look at and with some fun material not of Seuss' invention, but it's too hectoring, like reading an environmental textbook with jolly pictures."

Time Out

"About as factory-produced a film as it's possible to make about the evils of commercialism, while the bulbous, Haribo-hued animation style reflects none of Seuss's visual wit."
