Starring: Leonardo DiCaprio, Armie Hammer, Naomi Watts, Ed Westwick, Josh Hamilton, Dame Judi Dench
Directed by: Clint Eastwood
The plot: J Edgar Hoover is clinging to power, assisted as ever by loyal secretary Helen Gandy. He begins to dictate his memoirs to Agent Smith and drifts back in time in hazy reminiscences to the 1919 bombings which sent shockwaves through Washington DC. With assistant director Clyde Tolson by his side, Hoover becomes embroiled in the ill-fated search for the missing infant son of aviator Charles Lindbergh and clashes with Robert F Kennedy.

what the others say
"Despite being buried in layers of prosthetic latex, DiCaprio is a roaring wonder as J. Edgar Hoover. Even when the film trips on its tall ambitions, you can't shake it off."
"A pleasing, intelligent film happy to describe Hoover's behaviour as monstrous but too balanced and searching to damn him as a monster."
"A laboured, morally questionable portrait of the would-be power broker that, moreover, is badly undermined by some dubious special-effects decisions."
