what the others say

Channel 4

"A credible first US film for Joe Wright, The Soloist brings to life its story with genuine compassion, neatly avoiding many of the traps that afflict Hollywood films about mental illness. And Jamie Foxx's transformation will simply astound."

ViewLondon

"Downey Jr. is on good form, but The Soloist is ultimately disappointing thanks to a rambling script and an unengaging central performance from Foxx."

Scotsman

"It takes admirable steps to avoid the sentimental pitfalls that tend to accompany all such redemptive Hollywood tales, but it still leaves you with a weird aftertaste."
